Cpt. Michel Bozikovic & Capt. Andrea Ciotoli

Split Croatia end of October 2018 Joining date on Clipper Beneteau Oceanis 39 on delivery to Qatar. The yacht has just been surveyed and put back in the water. As the crew arrives the boat goes through a thorough check and a deep clean. The yacht is checked inside out. Departure will be around the 4th of November weather permitting.
It all seems to work fine and we are in line with our schedule, even though on our passage to Greece just before the Corinth Strait the Genoa falls into pieces. A large tear right in the middle and all the wear of an exhausted sail comes out to our eyes, and yes this is probably the end for her.

This is not a good start and a simple repair seems very unlikely. Our next stop is Rhodes. We arrive in Rhodes and the sail repair guy comes along to give the professional verdict. We all agree we need a new Genoa including the owner.  The new Genoa arrives within a week and we are off again. Suez Canal is our next stop and we are so happy to go. The weather though in not our our side and the headed wind only awaited us. Gale force winds from the south are striking upon Rhodes and this may slow our departure. Port Said can wait…

In Rhodes we stayed at Mandraki Marina: Thanks to Giorgos from the marina office, Kiriakos who replaced our Genoa with DL SAILS and last but not least our friends from the Marina Yacht Club Cafe.

We eventually after a long wait make our way to Egypt Port Said. Only 48 hours before we can go through the Canal which is a good score.

Ismalia and the next day we are out into the Red Sea and we are ready to start our real battle against the odds. Only headed winds ahead of us together with the Pirates, we have it all for a crazy recipe.

The Red Sea – Massawa. We have a very tiring run down the Read Sea and we desperately need a stop.

Massawa is not exactly the best place on heart but it does the job, we rest we have a beer we get old of Diesel on the black market and so in the same way we get all we need to proceed.

Looking for a gas bottle in Massawa…a real MISSION!!! But not for delivery captain!!! A short stay as planned and off we go into the Gulf of Aden on a few days away.

Things have changed a lot around here as 20 years ago you were completely on your own in Piracy Land, not instead we got full cover by the USA and Europe.

So apart from the usual natural worry we have nothing to fear and so we reach our next stop Salalah Oman as we are running low on fuel.

Salalah Oman: Captain Andrea and the local agency team. Great help but very expensive.

Doha Qatar final Destination.
