Tanna 47 HouseCat La Rochelle to Gibraltar
House Cat in Cascais
Delivery of Fountaine Pajot Tanna 47 House Cat from La Rochelle to Gibraltar. This passage is never an easy one, and the crew knows it well.
The owners, Matthew and Melissa, decided to join us. The Bay of Biscay proved to be challenging, as usual, and seasickness struck the crew. Dear little Gusby (our friend Captain Dog) kept cool and performed better than the crew, making it through… LOL.
The food throughout the trip was incredibly good, and the boat owners made sure we were well-fed. The menu was accurately planned all the time.
We passed through Biscay and experienced some issues with the STBD engine going off for no reason. This made it a priority for our next (1st) stop in Cascais, Lisbon, Portugal.
Cascais turned out to be a great stop, except for when the STBD engine stopped working while we were trying to dock. We received quick support from the marina assistants, and everything went well and we safely docked.
We made our journey as amazing as possible, even though the engine was not the only issue, and the ORCA ATTACK threat was looming around the corner. House Cat sailed within the 20mt contour line. The weather was not in our favour and we had to beat into 40kt SE winds just outside of Barbate. Fortunately, the current was with us, allowing us to make our way.
Finally, we rounded up Tarifa and eventually the wind came down, as did the choppy sea, for a mild and comfortable sail into Gibraltar.
Tanna 47 arrived at Alcaidesa Marina late in the evening, and, guess what? The starboard engine failed once again…LOL. Thanks to a great team effort! Well done!
