Satellite Communication – Safety & Tracking for Yacht Delivery

Safety at Sea and Satellite Communiaction option

Satellite Communication – A Cornerstone of Delivery Captain Services

At Delivery Captain, satellite communication is not optional—it’s essential.
From transatlantic crossings to coastal repositioning, our crews stay connected at all times for weather updates, emergency support, and customer reporting.

Why Satellite Communication Matters

Every yacht delivery begins with solid planning, but the sea is unpredictable. Sudden weather changes, mechanical issues, or rerouting can occur at any moment. Satellite communication allows our captains to:

  • Receive live weather forecasts

  • Get technical guidance from our office team

  • Make informed, real-time route decisions

  • Trigger SOS signals in true emergencies

This level of connectivity adds a critical safety layer that GPS alone cannot provide.

Devices We Use & Recommend

There are several trusted systems in use. Our crews adapt to the owner’s preferences or use our own equipment when needed.

📡 Iridium GO!

The most common device in our fleet.

  • Connects to smartphones

  • Offers weather, SOS, tracking, and two-way calling

  • Portable and reliable

  • Owner-preferred and always present on long deliveries

👉 New model: Iridium GO! EXEC – 40x faster than its predecessor.

starlink

Starlink

  • Starlink Maritime – High-speed internet offshore; fantastic for crew morale and bulk communication

📌 We tested Starlink on a recent Atlantic crossing—performance was excellent. However, for real emergencies, we advise portable, self-powered systems like Iridium GO! or InReach that can be taken into a life raft.

SATELLITE COMMUNICATION

Office Monitoring & Support

All active deliveries are monitored by our office via satellite messaging. This allows us to:

  • Detect problems before they escalate

  • Suggest detours or port stops

  • Support the captain remotely with guidance

  • Reassure the client that their yacht is being tracked and supported 24/7

A Human Touch Beyond Safety

Satellite communication also lets crews stay in touch with loved ones during long passages. It’s not just about safety—it’s about connection, trust, and peace of mind.

Delivery Captain’s Commitment

We treat every yacht with the same level of care and attention we would give our own. That includes how we communicate—clearly, frequently, and without delay.
